Family Planning

Family planning involves a variety of methods to help individuals and couples control if and when they have children. Gynecologists provide a range of family planning services, including permanent and temporary contraceptive options. Here’s an overview of four common family planning methods: tubal ligation, Copper T (IUD), oral contraceptive pills, and injectable contraceptives.

1. Tubal Ligation

A permanent method for women who do not want more children. It involves surgical intervention to block or cut the fallopian tubes.

Benefits:

  • Highly effective and permanent.
  • No ongoing need for contraception.

2. Copper T (Intrauterine Device - IUD)

A long-term, reversible, hormone-free contraceptive device inserted into the uterus, effective for up to 10 years.

Benefits:

  • Effective for up to 10 years.
  • Hormone-free, which is suitable for women who cannot use hormonal contraception.

3. Oral Contraceptive Pills

Daily hormonal pills that are effective in preventing pregnancy, regulating menstrual cycles, and providing other health benefits.

Benefits:

  • Highly effective when taken correctly.
  • Can regulate menstrual cycles and reduce menstrual cramps.
  • May provide additional benefits like reduced acne.

4. Injectable Contraceptive

A long-term, reversible method involving a hormonal injection every three months, suitable for women who prefer not to take daily pills.

Benefits:

  • Highly effective with quarterly administration.
  • Can be used by women who cannot take estrogen.
